An important institution for North African history is the National Museum of Archaeology. It holds many objects from Carthage and other civilizations in the area. There is a museum in the Dominican Republic that has ships and weapons on display, among other things. They cover from before Columbus arrived to modern times. But it is best known as one of the greatest pre-Columbian art museums in the world. Its outstanding collection consists mostly of gold artifacts; these come from Caribbean and Central American cultures, among others.
In Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas National Park, there's a 16th-century fort. It offers spectacular views of the city. Cartagena Botanical Garden is filled with tropical plants from all over. Waterfront Concha Park overlooks Cartagena Bay (which has beautiful views) and is great for picnicking, walking around, and going for a swim.
Cartagena has beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue water. Playa Bocagrande, Playa Castillo Grande and Playa Manzanillo are ideal for sunbathing, swimming or water sports like jet skiing.

There are always festive moods throughout the year in Cartagena being one of their popular festivals being one on Afro-Colombian culture and traditions called Festival de la Fantasía while another one is a Latin American music fiesta named Cartagena Music Festival.
