The Vaternish beach is situated on the left shore of the island. It is a very good place for dolphin and whale watching.
Have you ever thought of a hiking paradise? That would be the Isle of Skye. Several trails allow access to stunning landscapes all over the island, from easy family walks to more challenging ones for experienced hikers. There are also many routes among which the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing or the Cuillin Ridge are considered the most frequented.
Scotland’s largest national park is the one on the southern part of the island, Cairngorms National Park. A great number of birds and mammals live in Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve, which is located to the north of the island.
The Isle of Skye has several castles and actually interesting sites. Dunvegan Castle is one such castle that has belonged to the MacLeod clan for centuries since it is medieval. Then, consider exploring the ruins of Dun Scaith Castle which was once an ancient Viking fort. Also dotted with picturesque Gaelic villages; Portree, the island's capital is one, Sligachan or Elgol are two other fishing villages.
There are several festivals and events that take place annually on the Isle of Skye. Among these, the July Skye Live Festival, which pays tribute to Gaelic music. While the August boat festival called "Skye Boat" honors their maritime past.
