The place harbors unique fauna including Marco Polo sheep, flared-horned markhor and snow leopard.
Priceless natural treasures are kept in Pamir National Park which is the largest one in Central Asia. A huge glacial lake named Lake Sarez offers breathtaking scenery here. Climbers from around the world come to the peaks. Pik Lenin, reaching an altitude of 7,134 meters, is one of the highest summits accessible to mountaineers. Another is Ismoil Somoni Peak, the highest mountain in Tajikistan. The Pamir Highway is one of the highest roads in the world which twists through mountains providing fantastic views of surrounding landscapes.
