When was the Uffizi Gallery built?
The Uffizi Gallery was built in the 16th century and opened in 1581. Giorgio Vasari, a Tuscan painter, architect and writer, was responsible for the construction. He designed it with a Renaissance style of architecture. The project was born under the initiative of the first Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosme Le Jeune. Initially, the Uffizi Gallery was created to serve as offices for the Grand Duchy for the conduct of the state.

When did the Uffizi Museum open its doors?
In 1581, Francis I, son of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosme Le Jeune, transformed the upper part of the Uffizi Gallery into a museum to house the important collection of Medici art. It should be noted that the Uffizi Museum did not open its doors to the public until 1765.
