Written by Nathalie Doummar and directed by Rose-Anne Déry, 'Georges' is an intimate family portrait inspired by Doummar's own history. The play follows Georges, an Egyptian-born father raising two Quebec-born children whose values and choices diverge sharply from his traditional, conservative worldview.
Through fragments of everyday family life spanning childhood to adulthood, the play sketches a portrait of a man who is upright and old-fashioned, yet also loving, funny and deeply endearing. The work explores themes of post-separation rebuilding, the complexity of paternal love, and the tensions — and reconciliations — between tradition and modernity.
The play also brings warmth and humour to the particular experiences of second-generation immigrant children navigating identity between two cultures. It was developed during a writing residency at La Manufacture.
Nathalie Doummar has written over ten plays, including 'Coco' and 'Sissi' at La Licorne, and more recently 'Mama' and 'Frères' at Duceppe. Director Rose-Anne Déry previously helmed 'Faire mal' and 'Bénévolat' at La Licorne.
Performances run Tuesday to Thursday at 19:00, Friday at 20:00, and Saturday at 16:00.
