One of the gems in the city is the Hunan Provincial Museum which is full of relics from the Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs along with magnificent paintings, exquisite embroidery, and more. There are also artifacts collections from the Shang Dynasty, Zhou Dynasty, and Wu Kingdom.
If you want to combine your love of history with your scenic nature along with a dash of adventure, then try climbing the top of Mount Yule where you can have a breathtaking view of the city. Not only that but the beautiful trees and springs of water make it a serene place. Don’t forget to stop by Yuelu Academy which is a thousand and is one of the four biggest and oldest academies in ancient China.
History buffs will also find themselves marveling in The Changsha Museum at more than 50,000 pieces of historical artifacts collections. These collections cover everything from the Stone Age to the modern time. The museum is full of treasures from the Shang and Zhou Dynasty, the Chu and Han Dynasty, and Changsha kiln porcelain from the Tang Dynasty.
Another great spot in Changsha is Orange Isle which earns its name due to the area famously producing oranges during the Tang Dynasty. The place represents a connection between the past and present, having one of the eight sceneries of ancient Xiaoxiang culture. There will never be a dull moment during your visit with many things to see including the Xiaoxiang Celebrity Club, Citrus Culture Park, Cultural Exhibition Hall, and more! If you are lucky to be visiting the city at a certain time of year, you will get to experience a marvelous fireworks show that takes place every Saturday.
No trip is complete without experiencing Changsha’s delicious cuisine and Huogongdian, Pozi Street, and Huangxing Pedestrian Street are the best places to treat your taste buds with some traditional food. Expect your dishes to be spicy or sour and some of the popular foods you will encounter include flavored shrimp, stinky tofu, and fried sweet paste all from the Hunan cuisine. Experience Changsha snacks like taro with beef or beef noodles.
