Indeed, at the front of the monument, several figures composed of a craftsman, a fisherman, and a farmer are engraved. One of them holds an agricultural hand tool (a scythe) adorned with acorns and oak leaves, symbolizing strength and virility. At the top of the memorial, a lady represents the emblem of Liberty. It raises three golden stars that designate the 3 cultural regions of Latvia (Latgale, Vidzeme, and Courland). Financed by private donors, the construction of the Riga Freedom Monument lasted 4 years. The site's inauguration was held on November 18, 1935, when Latvia was celebrating the 17th anniversary of its independence.
