It is home to many monuments that will not leave you indifferent. The historical museum is one of the Gorée jewels. A former fortress, it was built by the French between 1852 and 1856. It houses various collections relating to the country's general history. The church of St. Charles Borromeo is also a treasure of the island. Erected in 1830, it allowed the French to introduce Catholicism to Gorée.
The island of Gorée is also appreciated for its beautiful beaches for swimming and sunbathing.
