In the northwest region of Yunnan Province in China lies Lijiang. During the Song dynasty in the late 13th century AD, the ancient town was established and was added as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. On the west side of the city's old town, you will find the spacious Lion Hill, and on the town's northern side, the Black Dragon Pool Park offers a scenic view with the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain as its background. A similar but much quieter historic town is Shuhe Ancient Town, where the ancestors of the Naxi people settled. The very layout of the town exemplifies the Naxis civilization's evolution from an agricultural to a commercial one. Another ancient settlement that Lijiang offers to its tourists is Baisha Village. The Mu family mansion is another one of the city's preserved landmarks. After being destroyed by an earthquake, however, the entire mansion was given a thorough makeover.
