Also, explore the Church of the Virgin, unearthed from the basement in 1887. This monument is located within the walls of the Madaba Archaeological Park, which highlights terrific artistic masterpieces in mosaics and an exhibition of the ruins of ancient civilizations.
If you pass by the crossroads of the Kings' Route, you will notice the Church of the Apostles at first glance. Continue your appreciation of the site with a visit to the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church. Upon reaching the top of this shrine, you will have a panoramic view of all of Madaba.
Find other wonders by going a little further from the city center. Mount Nebo, for example, is located about ten kilometers from Madaba. According to the accounts, Moses looked at the Promised Land for the first time and perished there. It is a stay that will also make you discover the Dead Sea. Enjoy a remarkable view of the latter from the castle of Machaérus. For the record, it was in this palace that John the Baptist was executed.
