Stroll through the Plaza Dom Pedro II and take the opportunity to visit the Palácio dos Leões or the Lavardière Plaza. You can also walk by the sea, especially along the white sandy beach of Calhau. In addition to walking along the coast, it is also possible to take a short swim.
Not far from there, you will notice the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, a must-see. A completely different world awaits you: white dunes, as far as the eye can see, interspersed with clear water lagoons. It's simply phenomenal! Just opposite São Luís is the town of Alcântara, the former capital of Maranhão. This place, founded in 1648, has all its charm, with its cobbled streets and colonial-style buildings. Also, consider walking the streets of Imperatriz, a town nestled in the Amazon rainforest. Here, you will discover the Catedral de Nossa Senhora de Fátima as well as hiking trails near the Tocantin River.
