Madinat al-Zahra, which means "shining city," is undoubtedly one of Spain's most important historical sites. It is also called Medina Azahara and is located in the western part of Cordoba. It is the remnant of a magnificent city built in the tenth century. This emblematic place is divided into three terraces. At first, visitors can admire the royal outbuildings and the fortress. The second, on the other hand, corresponds to the administrative area. On the last terrace are important gardens bordered, on the sides, by houses. But you will be conquered from the entrance since it consists of a large portico composed of fifteen arches. Inside the site is the illustrious Salón Rico, or room of Abd-ar-Rahman (the creator of Madinat al-Zahra). The decoration of this room is exceptional since it served as a throne room and ceremony for this caliph. There is also the Aljama Mosque, the House of Ya'far, the Abode of the Alberca, and many other wonders to discover. ◄
