The MuCEM is a multidisciplinary museum devoted mainly to Mediterranean culture from prehistory to the present.
The MUCEM complex consists of two adjacent buildings on the waterfront of Marseille, a new, iconic building designed by French architect Rudy Ricciotti that opened in 2013.
The main exhibition in building J4, the Galerie de la Mediterranee, presents different cultures of the Mediterranean. The various rooms at Fort Saint-Jean focus mainly on the history of Marseille and Provence, and part of this museum is a place for exhibitions.
