The great site of the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso is located in Madrid. Its appearance evokes European palatine architecture. Once the summer residence of the kings of Spain, it is recognizable by its baroque style. King Philip V, the first Spanish king of the Bourbon dynasty, had it built in the eighteenth century. Versailles inspired the palace with the decoration of its rooms, its 26 fountains, and its spectacular gardens designed by Carlier, the apprentice of the architect of Louis XIV. The lead and marble statues of French sculptor René Frémin enhance the park. With the help of other artists, the latter also designed the monumental fountain: Les Bains de Diane, an ideal place to relax and recharge your batteries. The rooms of this magnificent residence are decorated with crystal lamps, Japanese lacquers, and Carrara marble. Here you will discover the works of renowned architects such as Juvarra, Procaccini, and Ardemans. If you like the playful pleasure of being both quests and lost, you can try your hand at the castle maze. ◄
