One of the main things Shreveport is famous for is being the home of so many festivals- there’s always something to celebrate in the city. Try not to miss the multiple parades taking place at the beginning of the year for the Mardi Gras season. The spring’s Mudbug Madness is known to be among the biggest crawfish festivals in Louisana, and there’s also the 318 Restaurant Week festival, which is dedicated to Shreveport’s mouth-watering local food.
The city has almost 40 cultural spots, so you’ll have much to do during your visit to Shreveport. The Southern University Museum of Art is the only museum in Lousiana showcasing the preserved art of the African and African American Diaspora as well as their culture. There’s also the Multicultural Center of the South, which displays the diverse culture in Louisana, including the Creoles, Hispanics, Italians, Native Americans and more.
Take your curiosity one step further as you step into the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, with a portico that dates back to the 1930s. This is the best place to truly examine the history of Louisana, with exhibits showcasing periods of factories, sugarcane and rice plantations, and life in swamps. There’s also a depiction of the rich history of Native Americans in Louisiana.
The R.W. Norton Art Gallery is a must-visit while you are in Shreveport since it’s the largest museum in the city. The museum houses an impressive collection of European paintings, artifacts, sculptures, and more.
If you’re looking for a fun experience, especially if you’re traveling with children, then you must stop by Gators and Friends Adventure Park. There, you can experience anything from a go-kart race to petting baby alligators.
Another main attraction in Shreveport is the Louisiana Boardwalk which is made up of more than 40 stores along with the best restaurants and cafes in the city. It’s a great place for a walk with a cone of ice cream or a shopping spree for anything you might need. The East Bank District and plaza is a similar spot with charming cafes and shops.
