Lovers of nature will be excited by the large number of reserves and national parks situated in the area. Kirindy Nature Reserve has many types of lemurs, reptiles and birds. For its singular landscapes and fauna Zombitse-Vohibasia National Park should also be visited.
Toliara Province has much for sea lovers as well. Anakao Village is located at the end of a peninsula along the coast. Clear waters make it possible to swim or go snorkeling and diving in them. Nosy Ve Island is another popular spot. It boasts white sandy beaches and amazing underwater wildlife.
Isalo Window is a natural site located in Isalo National Park, in the heart of Toliara Province. This unique rock formation offers panoramic views of the surroundings.
The province of Toliara has many natural attractions. Among them, the mangroves deserve special attention. The mangrove of Ambolambo Bay, located about 30 km north of Tulear, is one of the largest in the province. It is home to a wide variety of plants and animals. About 50 km southeast of Tulear, the Saint-Augustin Bay mangrove is a popular destination for fishing and birdwatching. About 100 km south of Tulear, the Mangoky River's mangrove is crucial for fish and bird reproduction.
However, Toliara Province isn’t limited to only these famous sites; there are still lots more places to see: To relax, you could go to Lokaro Beach that lies just northwards from Toliara; while Antsokay Arboretum not far from there will allow seeing different plants endemic to Madagascar; Nahampoana Reserve that lies eastwards from town offers fantastic scenery as well as outstanding wildlife; finally Domaine de la Cascade stands few kilometers southwards from Toliara welcomes visitors into a preserved location.
You can also visit the monument of the Tropic of Capricorn, located at about 20 km to the south from the city, which through its imaginary line marks this latitude. There are Sarodrano caves that can be found just nearby them, and they provide a unique experience in atmospheric limestone caves. Your eyes will catch sight of an old Miary tree; it is a sacred baobab tree worshipped by local people. Rabesandratana and Cedratom are both museums lying right in the downtown area where you can better understand traditions and history.
