Adib Alkhalidey: Como los Mongoles en Bagdad

Adib Alkhalidey returns to the stage with 'Comme les Mongols à Baghdad', his third major solo show. Following 'Québécois Tabarnak' and 'Des putes et des voleurs' — both winners of the Spectacle d'humour de l'année at the ADISQ, an unprecedented back-to-back achievement in 45 years — this new work continues to cement his reputation as one of Quebec's most daring comedic voices.

The show centres on the idea of transmission: how meaning, knowledge, fears, wounds, contradictions, and impulses are passed from one generation to the next in an era that seems to have lost faith in its own ability to hand anything down. Topics range from tax fraud and political corruption to the exhaustion of parenting young children, the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, Jesus, and the realities of mixed families.

Alkhalidey's signature style — branching, associative, unafraid of the sensitive or taboo — is on full display. Rather than offering answers, the show invites audiences to look certain truths squarely in the face. The result is described as deeply funny, at times brutal, at times anxious, but always driven by a sincere desire to bring together what the times seem determined to pull apart.

The show runs 1 hour 30 minutes with no intermission. Tickets are priced at $55 (taxes and fees included) for all seven performances at the Cinquième Salle. The production is presented by La Tribu.
