KATARSIS is a grand, sensory theatrical production directed by award-winning director Anja Behrens, performed in Danish at Nørrebro Teater in Copenhagen. The piece draws on the ancient Norse Eddic poem Völuspá (The Völva's Prophecy), translated by Rolf Stavnem, and was developed in collaboration with author and initiated völva Andrea Hejlskov, who brings over 25 years of experience in witchcraft traditions.
On stage, actors Signe Egholm Olsen and Patrick Baurichter guide audiences through a poetic and physical ritual rooted in Norse mythology, cultural history, and spiritual practice. The performance does not offer answers, but instead opens a space for hope and transformation — framing Ragnarök, the Norse apocalypse, as a moment of purification and the possibility of renewal.
The production fuses ancient ceremonial structures with a contemporary universe of electronic sound, movement, hypnosis, and elemental materials including earth and water. Christian Albrechtsen's scenography blurs the boundary between the concrete and the mystical, shifting reality throughout the performance.
Performances run from September 12 to October 3, 2026. Tuesday shows begin at 19:00 (with some at 20:00), Wednesday and Thursday shows at 20:00, Friday shows at 17:00 (with some at 20:00), and Saturday matinees at 15:00. The performance is in Danish.
