Imarhan are based in Tamanrasset in southern Algeria, where they have also built their own recording studio. Alongside artists such as Tinariwen and Mdou Moctar, they represent a remarkable generation of bands rooted in nomadic Tuareg culture, celebrated worldwide for their hypnotic, electrifying guitar anthems.
Distinguishing themselves from their peers, Imarhan have steered Tuareg music in a more urban and groove-oriented direction, incorporating influences from soul, rock and Algerian raï alongside their folk roots. Their music reflects both the spiritual heritage of the Tuareg people and the realities of contemporary life in southern Algeria.
Marking their 20th anniversary, the band return with their fourth album ESSAM (City Slang, 2025), which pushes Tuareg blues into new sonic territory with a more modern, open and exploratory sound. The release is accompanied by an extensive international tour.
Imarhan previously delivered a sold-out performance at ALICE in 2022. Expect another immersive, captivating live show from one of Algeria's most acclaimed bands.
