Four soloists from the Orchestre national de Montpellier — on trombone, tuba, cello, and percussion — unite for a programme called Traversée, an exploration of music that spans centuries and styles.
The ensemble brings together instruments that might seem incompatible, and precisely that tension becomes the creative engine. With no existing repertoire written for this particular combination, the performers have arranged and reinvented works from other traditions, giving each piece a new poetic identity entirely their own.
The programme journeys from the Baroque world of Handel through to the rich colours of the 20th century, with works by Bartók, Bernstein, and Holst among others. Each transcription is treated as an original creation, shaped by the singular sonic encounter the four instruments produce.
The concert takes place on 21 November at Le Corum, Montpellier, starting at 19:00. Tickets are available via the Opéra Orchestre national de Montpellier website.
