How Romantic - Compagnie nationale norvégienne de danse contemporaine - Katerina Andreou Carte Blanche

How Romantic - Compagnie nationale norvégienne de danse contemporaine - Katerina Andreou Carte Blanche

Founded in 1989, the Norwegian company Carte Blanche has become one of the formations that truly matter in Europe today. Its identity grows out of the singularity of its fourteen performers and an unwavering commitment to creation: each season, two new pieces come to life, entrusted to guest choreographers chosen as much for their work as for what they stand for. HOW ROMANTIC springs precisely from the meeting between the company and Greek-born artist Katerina Andreou, a former student of the Essai program in Angers. After BLESS THIS MESS, her first group piece (2024), she pushes her work on collective writing further, in an ever more physical relationship to the stage.

Her shows are experiences in their own right, in which she reaches for exhaustion and trance. That hunger for performance finds its dramaturgy here, which she ties, not without irony, to the dance marathons of the United States. In a bare, raw space, Katerina Andreou draws all the attention back to the performers, burning under the spotlights. This is where bonds and solitudes take shape, shared surges and intimacies — the body and its presence the only thread to follow. A magnetic journey from which you may not come out unscathed.
