ラ・グランド・モット

La Grande-Motte is a seaside resort on the Mediterranean coast of France, in the Occitanie region of Europe. It is best known for its striking architecture: the town's buildings, many of them shaped like pyramids, were designed by Jean Balladur, and the result gives the resort a distinctive retro-futuristic look that sets it apart from more traditional coastal towns.

What a visit offers

The appeal of La Grande-Motte is partly in its setting. Wide sandy beaches stretch along the shore, suited to a relaxed day by the sea. The lively marina adds a different rhythm, with boats coming and going and cafés and restaurants nearby. For those who prefer to be active, the resort offers water sports and cycling paths, which make it easy to explore the coast at your own pace.

Beyond the resort

La Grande-Motte also makes a good base for exploring the wider area. The Camargue wetlands lie nearby, a landscape of lagoons, marshes and open horizons that contrasts sharply with the modern town. Visitors who enjoy comparing the built and the natural will find the two a pleasing pairing.

If you are drawn to architecture, beaches and the sea in equal measure, La Grande-Motte is a visit worth considering. Its character is unusual, and it rewards those who are curious enough to look at it closely.
