アルペ・ディ・シウージ

Alpe di Siusi, known in German as Seiser Alm, sits in the Dolomites of South Tyrol in northern Italy. It is described as Europe's largest high-altitude alpine meadow, a wide plateau of rolling green pasture that opens out in every direction, with the jagged peaks of the Dolomites rising around its edges.

What the visit is like

Much of the appeal lies in the open landscape itself. The meadows are dotted with traditional mountain huts, and the views of the surrounding peaks change with the light through the day. It is a place for slow walking rather than hard climbing, and the paths across the pastures are gentle enough for most visitors who want to spend time outdoors.

  • Hiking on easy routes across the meadows
  • Cycling over the open plateau
  • Skiing when the snow arrives

Culture and food

The area also offers a chance to experience South Tyrolean culture and cuisine. The mountain huts are a natural place to sit down with a meal and see how life here has long been shaped by the land and its farming traditions. Stopping at one of them is often the most relaxed part of a day on the meadows.

Planning your trip

Alpe di Siusi suits visitors who want wide scenery, fresh mountain air and an easy pace. Because it is a high plateau in a nature reserve setting, it works well as a day outing, and it can be combined with other parts of the Dolomites if you are staying longer in the region. Check conditions and seasonal access before you go, as weather at altitude can change quickly.
