コス考古学博物館

The Archaeological Museum of Kos sits on Plateia Eleftherias, in the town of Kos on the Dodecanese island of Kos in Greece. It is also known as the Kos Archaeological Museum, and it is a natural first stop for anyone curious about the island's past.

The building itself is part of the visit. The museum is housed in a former Ottoman mosque, so the rooms carry the character of an older religious structure while presenting objects from much earlier periods.

What you will see

The collection brings together finds from ancient Kos and from various archaeological sites across the island. Visitors can expect:

  • Sculptures that show how the island's people represented gods, figures and everyday life
  • Mosaics that reveal the floors and decoration of ancient homes and public spaces
  • Pottery that gives a sense of daily use and trade across the centuries

Planning your visit

The museum works well as a half-hour or longer visit before or after a walk through the town, which has its own historic streets and waterfront. Because the collection draws on several sites around the island, it can also help you make sense of ruins you visit elsewhere on Kos. For current opening arrangements, you can call the museum on +30 22420 28326 before you set out.
