Géométries du Vertige is a signature 100% Québec evening presented by Festival Quartiers Danses at the Cinquième Salle, bringing together three distinct companies and choreographic voices in a single programme running 1 hour 20 minutes with an intermission.
The evening opens with YEAHH (10 min) by Hélène Blackburn of Cas Public — a duet set against the contrasting musical worlds of James Brown and Rameau, tracing two bodies as they move between shared gaze and physical grip. Blackburn has led Cas Public for over 30 years and has shown work at the Opéra de Paris and the Royal Opera House in London.
Zachary Bastille then presents Que la beauté nous décapite (15 min), a work staging the ideological clash of two individuals driven to the limits of their convictions. Drawing on the rise of masculinism and political violence, the piece is created by the multidisciplinary choreographer who gained wider recognition through his appearance on the TV show Révolution.
Cai Glover of Cas Public follows with Rose Red and Violet Blue (10 min), a new duet exploring the forces of attraction and extraction within friendship — how it can elevate or destroy. Glover, a Deaf artist with 25 years of practice and a decade of collaboration with Cas Public, examines how identities are shaped and undone in the hands of another.
The programme closes with a 25-minute triptych by the junior company BD Projet Danse: Une Solitude by Owen Montague (a vibrant piece for eight young dancers), Untitled (figures) by Shawn Hounsell (a precise neoclassical duo exploring relational intimacy), and bangbang by Jérémy Galdéano (a percussive work for eight performers blending classical technique, rhythm, and theatricality).
