Opéra de Montréal presents Jules Massenet's beloved romantic opera Werther in three performances at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier from 21 to 29 November 2026. The production is co-produced with the Canadian Opera Company and Vancouver Opera.
The cast is headlined by French tenor Julien Dran making his Montreal debut in the title role, alongside the celebrated return of mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne to Opéra de Montréal as Charlotte. The ensemble also features Sophie Naubert (Sophie), Hugo Laporte (Albert), Tomislav Lavoie (Le Bailli), Jeremy Scinocca (Schmidt), and Dante Mullin Santone (Johann).
Musical direction is by Jacques Lacombe, with stage direction by Alain Gauthier. The production's scenic design by Olivier Landreville is centered on a large engraving of the city of Wetzlar, faithfully evoking late 18th-century Germany where the opera's tragic love story unfolds.
The opera is sung in French with French and English surtitles. Ticket prices range from $39 to $298 (taxes and fees included), varying by performance. Evening performances (Saturday 21 November and Sunday 29 November) are priced from $59 to $298; the Thursday matinée (26 November) ranges from $39 to $237.
