Ardèche

Ardèche is a department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of southeastern France, named after the Ardèche River that flows through it. The area is renowned for its dramatic natural landscapes, including the famous Pont d'Arc natural stone arch and the Ardèche Gorges, making it a popular destination for outdoor activities like canoeing, hiking, and caving. Ardèche is also known for its chestnut forests, traditional villages, and as the location of the Chauvet Cave, which contains some of the world's oldest known cave paintings dating back over 30,000 years.
