Altissimo Odysseum is a story of verticality for everyone. Spread across 1,800 square metres of climbable surface and rising to 12.5 metres, this 100% climbing space offers every profile a climber could want, from gentle slabs to steep overhangs. It's home to 13 automatic belay devices, two bouldering areas (one of them dedicated to children), and a lead-climbing sector — so whatever your level or mood, there's a way to climb. Better still, all three disciplines live under one roof: speed climbing, difficulty climbing, and bouldering. Access is free and needs no booking, seven days a week, whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned expert, and every session is unlimited in time — climb a route, relax between two problems, and take the whole day if the heart says so.
The walls are alive with constant change. The rope sectors hold over 200 routes and the boulder areas more than thirty, all renewed frequently and regularly, with topos kept up to date in real time so you can plan your session from home. Grading follows the French system, from level 3 up to 9, paired with a clear colour code — from yellow for the easiest lines through orange, blue, and red to white for the truly "abominable" 8a-and-above — so you can read the walls at a glance. For climbing the rope walls there are two ways to go: solo on the automatic belays, suitable for all from 6 years and 10 kg with no belay knowledge required, or roped up in pairs, which calls for proper belaying and tie-in technique (an initiation course is warmly recommended for newcomers). Bouldering, on walls of 3 to 4.5 metres, needs no rope or harness at all, with thick 40 cm crash mats below.
Newcomers will find everything they need on site — rope, harness, belay device, shoes, and even the chalk bag — all available to rent, and there's an Altishop boutique in every gym for those who'd rather buy their own kit at a good price. Pricing is flexible to suit every rhythm: a single session runs €17 classic, €15 student, and €13 for children under 12, with 5- and 10-session cards bringing the per-visit cost down (and Happy Hour rates from €10–11). For regulars, the monthly packs — Liberté (no commitment), Sérénité, and Premium, the last including six coaching sessions a year — start from €30/month and give access to the whole Altissimo network, seven days a week. To progress faster, there are initiation and technique courses (private at €49/h, duo at €69/h, group at €29/h, equipment included) plus a climbing school running one weekly lesson from September to June.
What ties it together is the team — among them François, the gym manager and equipment specialist; Nathan, in charge of route-setting, who brings an artist's eye to his visual lines; route-setters and instructors like Gaël and the others; and a warm welcome desk with the likes of Alicia, Julien, Baptiste, and Clara, all there to advise, guide, and make sure every climber — beginner or confirmed — feels looked after. Open, accessible, and endlessly renewed, Altissimo Odysseum is the place to discover the joys of climbing or push your limits, right in the Odysseum district of Montpellier.
