Keerat Kaur: Sweet Speech

Keerat Kaur: Sweet Speech is the artist's first solo exhibition in a Canadian fine arts museum, presented at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA). The show is centred on the Sikh concept of Mithi Boli — meaning 'sweet speech' — which encompasses speaking with humility, love and truthfulness.

Kaur draws on stories rooted in Sikh history and her own upbringing in a gurdwara community, transforming them into vivid, surreal, narrative compositions she describes as 'personal mythologies.' Her paintings blend Sikh spirituality with intimate personal storytelling in a bold and dreamlike visual style.

The exhibition offers a multisensory experience: alongside the paintings, visitors encounter gallery texts, poetry and music written by the artist herself, creating an immersive environment that extends beyond the visual.

The exhibition is curated by Laura Vigo, Curator of Asian Art at the MMFA, and runs until September 20, 2026.
