阿拉贡

Aragon is an autonomous community in northeastern Spain, stretching from the high peaks of the Pyrenees down toward the drier plains of the interior. It is a region for visitors who want history and landscape in roughly equal measure, with medieval architecture in its towns and mountains close enough to reach in a day.

What the region offers

  • Medieval architecture, scattered through its towns and villages, which gives many streets and buildings a distinctly old character.
  • The Pyrenees, whose mountain scenery makes Aragon a natural base for those who enjoy walking and open country.
  • Historic cities, most notably Zaragoza and Huesca, each with its own old quarter to explore.

Planning a visit

Zaragoza is the regional capital and the largest city, a practical starting point with a historic centre to walk through. Huesca, further north, is smaller and closer to the mountains, so it suits travellers heading toward the Pyrenean valleys. The contrast between city streets and mountain air is one of the region's main attractions, and many visitors combine the two in a single trip.

Because the region is large and varied, it rewards a little planning. Distances between the mountains and the plains are considerable, so choosing one or two areas to focus on will make the visit feel more relaxed. Whether you come for the architecture, the landscape or both, Aragon offers a quieter side of Spain that many travellers find rewarding.
