Arima Onsen

One of Japan's oldest hot spring resorts with over 1,000 years of history. Famous for its unique golden and silver spring waters with therapeutic properties.

Arima Onsen is a hot spring resort in Arima-cho, Kita-ku, in the Kansai region of Japan, within the city of Kobe. It is known in Japanese as ๆœ‰้ฆฌๆธฉๆณ‰, and in English as Arima Hot Springs. The resort is one of the country's oldest, with a history the facts describe as more than a thousand years, which gives a visit here a particular sense of continuity.

What makes the waters distinctive

Arima is famous for its two kinds of spring water, often described as golden and silver. The waters are valued for their therapeutic properties, and bathing in them is the main reason most visitors come. Whether you are drawn by the history, the water, or simply a slower pace, the town is built around the baths.

What a visit offers

  • Soaking in the golden and silver spring waters, the resort's defining feature
  • Strolling the small town centre, where the bath culture shapes daily life
  • An easy trip from Kobe, placing a spa day within reach of a larger city stay

Because the resort is compact, a visit can be relaxed and unhurried. Plan around the baths as the centrepiece, and allow time to wander between them rather than rushing from one sight to the next.
