This organ and choir concert at the Basilica of Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal brings together a distinguished ensemble of performers for an imaginative programme pairing two composers across time: Johann Sebastian Bach and Louis Vierne.
The evening features works for organ and choir by Johann Sebastian Bach alongside Louis Vierne's celebrated Messe solennelle op. 16 for choir and two organs. Vierne, the renowned French organist and titular organist of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, was a profound admirer of Bach — he transcribed Bach's Sicilienne (BWV 1031) for organ and regularly programmed Bach's works in his recitals, reflecting the lasting influence of the Leipzig Cantor on the French organ tradition.
Performers include Les Petits chanteurs du Mont-Royal (choir), Federico Andreoni on choir organ, and Vincent Boucher on grand organ. The ensemble is conducted by Andrew Gray, with Julie Daoust as host.
This concert is presented in partnership with Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal and forms part of Festival Bach 2026.
