Calvados is a department in the Normandy region of northwestern France, named after a famous offshore reef. It is renowned for producing the apple brandy that shares its name, as well as being home to historic Bayeux with its famous medieval tapestry depicting the Norman Conquest. The department played a crucial role in World War II as one of the main D-Day landing sites, with Omaha Beach located along its coastline.
