Philae Temple is an ancient temple complex in Aswan, in southern Egypt, dedicated to the goddess Isis. It is also known as the Temple of Isis, and visitors often call it the Pearl of Egypt.
The temple today
The temple now stands on Agilkia Island, not on its original site. It was relocated there because of the construction of the High Dam, which would otherwise have submerged the buildings. Seeing the temple on its new island gives a sense of how much care went into preserving it, and of the scale of the work involved in moving such a large complex.
