Coron

Famosa por sus dramáticos paisajes kársticos de piedra caliza, lagos prístinos y sitios de buceo en pecios de clase mundial. Hogar del Lago Kayangan, considerado uno de los lagos más limpios de Asia.

Coron is a town on Busuanga Island, in the north of Palawan in the Philippines. It is known above all for its dramatic limestone karst landscape, the steep, rocky hills and islets that rise out of the surrounding sea, and for the clear water that fills the bays and lakes between them.

What draws visitors

  • Kayangan Lake, on nearby Coron Island, is among the lakes most often described as the cleanest in Asia. Its water is famously clear, and the setting between limestone walls makes it a striking place to stop.
  • Wreck diving is one of the area's main attractions. Sunken vessels lie in the waters around Coron, and the town is widely regarded as a diving destination for those who enjoy exploring wrecks.
  • Island and lagoon scenery, with boat trips among the karst formations, suits visitors who want to see the landscape from the water.

Getting a feel for the place

Coron Town itself is the base for most visits, with accommodation, dive operators and boat services gathered around it. From here, day trips reach the lakes, lagoons and reefs of the surrounding islands, so a visit tends to be built around time on the water.

Because the landscape and the dive sites are the main reasons to come, Coron suits travellers who are happy to spend their days outdoors, on boats or in the sea. Those looking for city life or large-scale nightlife will find a quieter, smaller place than that.
