Enoshima

Isla conectada al continente por un puente, famosa por su santuario, cuevas y playas. Destino popular para excursiones de un día con atracciones espirituales y recreativas.

Enoshima is an island in Japan's Kanto Region, linked to the mainland by a bridge, which makes it one of the easiest island visits you can make from the surrounding area. Its name is also written 江島. It works well as a day trip, with a mix of spiritual and recreational places packed into a small, walkable space.

What to see

  • The shrine: Enoshima is known for its shrine, and it gives the island much of its spiritual character. Visitors often come to take in the atmosphere of its grounds.
  • The caves: The island's caves are among its best-known features and add a different kind of sightseeing to the day.
  • The beaches: Enoshima's beaches make it a popular choice for a relaxed afternoon, especially in warmer weather.

Planning your visit

Because the island is reached by bridge, getting there is straightforward, and you can move between the shrine, the caves and the shore on foot. The mix of quiet religious sites and open seafront means the day can be as slow or as active as you like. Set aside a few hours at minimum, and more if you want to linger by the water.

Enoshima suits travellers who want a short escape from city life without going far. Combining it with a wider trip through the Kanto Region is an easy way to add a coastal break to your itinerary.
