Fasil Ghebbi

Fasil Ghebbi is a walled royal enclosure in Gondar, a city in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. It was built as the seat of Emperor Fasilides and his successors in the 17th century, and it is also known as the Royal Enclosure or Fasilides Castle. The site is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What you will see

Within the compound stand six castles and several other buildings. Together they give a sense of how a royal centre was laid out, with its palaces and related structures grouped inside a single protective wall. Walking between them is the main way to take in the site.
