Fuerte Dagu

Fuertes históricos de defensa costera construidos durante la Dinastía Ming y posteriormente ampliados en la Dinastía Qing. El sitio desempeñó un papel crucial en la historia militar moderna de China y las Guerras del Opio.

Dagu Fort stands on the coast of Tianjin, in the Tanggu District of the Binhai New Area, in northern China. It is also known as the Taku Forts or the Dagu Battery, and it is a historic site of coastal defense works first built during the Ming Dynasty and later expanded in the Qing Dynasty.

What you will see

The fort is a monument rather than a museum with a broad collection, so a visit is best approached as a walk through a historic defensive landscape. Its earthworks and remaining structures show how the coast near Tianjin was guarded across several centuries.

Why it matters

The site played a crucial role in China's modern military history and in the Opium Wars. For visitors interested in how the nineteenth-century conflicts reached China's northern coast, it offers a direct, physical link to those events.

  • Type of visit: a historic monument, suited to a walk and to reading about its past
  • Setting: the coast of the Binhai New Area, in Tanggu District
  • Also known as: Taku Forts and Dagu Battery, names you may see on signs and maps

Because the fort sits in the Binhai New Area, you can combine it with other sights in the Tianjin municipality. Check current arrangements before you go, and contact the site at +86-22-25792035 if you need details for your trip.
