Gasherbrum I

La undécima montaña más alta del mundo con 8,080 metros, ubicada en la frontera entre Pakistán y China. Parte del macizo Gasherbrum en el Karakoram.

Gasherbrum I, also known as Hidden Peak or K5, is a mountain in the Karakoram Range of Gilgit-Baltistan, in northern Pakistan. It rises to 8,080 metres, which makes it the eleventh highest mountain in the world. It stands on the Pakistan-China border and forms part of the Gasherbrum massif.

What to expect

For most visitors, Gasherbrum I is a mountain to see from a distance rather than a place to climb. Its summit lies far above the trekking routes of the region, and reaching it is a serious expedition undertaken by experienced mountaineers. Anyone travelling to the area should plan with a licensed guide and check current conditions and permit requirements before setting out.

The surrounding area

  • The Karakoram Range, one of the great mountain ranges of Asia, with peaks and glaciers stretching across the north of Pakistan.
  • The wider Gilgit-Baltistan region, where valleys, villages and high-altitude landscapes lie along the routes into the mountains.
  • The Gasherbrum massif, whose neighbouring summits share the same dramatic setting.

A visit to Gasherbrum I suits travellers interested in high mountains, glaciers and the wild scenery of the Karakoram. Those drawn to the region for its landscape will find that the mountain is the focal point of a remote and demanding part of the world.
