Hebron is a city in the West Bank, Palestine, set in the hills south of Jerusalem. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, and that long history is visible in its streets, stone buildings and the rhythm of daily life around them.

The Cave of the Patriarchs

The city is best known for the Cave of the Patriarchs, also called the Ibrahimi Mosque. It is believed to be the burial place of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and for that reason it is a significant place of pilgrimage for several faiths. Visitors come to see the site and to understand why it matters to so many people. Because it is a sacred place, visitors should expect a careful, respectful atmosphere and should dress and behave accordingly.

The Old City and its souks

Beyond the shrine, the Old City offers a walk through traditional stone architecture and busy souks, where market stalls line narrow lanes. It is a good place to wander without a fixed plan, to watch the trading and to get a sense of the city as a living community rather than only a monument.

A visit to Hebron suits travellers interested in religious heritage, historic urban settings and the everyday life of a long-established city. Those who come for the pilgrimage site and the Old City will find that the two together give the visit its character.
