Museo de Historia Natural Carnegie

Uno de los cuatro Carnegie Museums, que presenta extensas colecciones de dinosaurios y exhibiciones de historia natural. Hogar de uno de los esqueletos de T. rex más completos del mundo.

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History stands on Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the Oakland district close to the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. It is one of the four Carnegie Museums in the city, and it is often called CMNH for short.

What you will see

The museum is best known for its dinosaur collections, which are among the most extensive of their kind. Visitors come to see one of the world's most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons, a specimen that draws many people on its own. Beyond the dinosaurs, the galleries cover a broad range of natural history, so a visit can move from ancient reptiles to the wider story of life on Earth.

Who it suits

  • Families and children, who tend to linger over the skeletons and the fossil displays.
  • Students and science enthusiasts, given the depth of the collections.
  • Visitors with a few hours in Pittsburgh, since the museum is compact enough to see in one outing.

Around the museum

Because it sits in Oakland, the museum is easy to combine with other stops in the area. The neighbourhood is home to universities, libraries and cafés, and it makes a practical base for an afternoon of museum-going followed by a walk or a meal nearby.
