Palacio Grassalkovich

Palacio barroco del siglo XVIII que sirve como residencia oficial del Presidente de Eslovaquia. Construido por el Conde Grassalkovich con hermosos jardines franceses.

Grassalkovich Palace (also known as Grasalkovičov palác) stands on Hodžovo námestie in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It is an 18th-century Baroque palace and today serves as the official residence of the President of Slovakia, which gives a visit here a rather different character from a typical sightseeing stop.

What to expect

The palace was built by Count Grassalkovich, and its Baroque architecture still shapes the square and the streets around it. Its most appealing feature for many visitors is the garden, laid out in the French style, with formal lines and carefully arranged greenery. It is a good place for a slow walk and for looking at the building from the outside.

  • Baroque architecture from the 18th century
  • French-style gardens around the palace
  • A setting that combines official public life with historic beauty

Planning your visit

Because the palace is an active presidential residence, it is wise to check in advance what is open to the public before you go, and to contact the palace directly on +421 2 5441 1111 if you have questions. The address is Hodžovo námestie 1, 811 06 Bratislava.

Around the palace

The palace sits in Bratislava's Old Town area, so it pairs easily with other walks in the city centre. Combining a stroll through the gardens with time on the historic streets nearby makes a relaxed half-day, and it suits anyone interested in how Baroque design fits into the life of a modern capital.
