Parque Nacional Durmitor

Sitio del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO que presenta picos montañosos espectaculares, lagos glaciales y el cañón del río Tara. Hogar de fauna diversa y senderos de senderismo.

Durmitor National Park lies around the town of Žabljak in northern Montenegro, in the Dinaric Alps. It is also known locally as Nacionalni park Durmitor, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognised for its landscape and natural values.

What to expect

The park is defined by dramatic mountain peaks and a scattering of glacial lakes set among them. Its most striking feature is the canyon of the Tara River, which cuts deep through the land and gives the area a sense of scale that is easy to appreciate from the viewpoints and trails.

Wildlife and walking

  • A diverse range of wildlife makes its home in the park.
  • Hiking trails lead through the mountains and around the lakes, suiting walkers who enjoy being outdoors for a day or more.
  • The landscape changes noticeably between the high peaks, the lake shores and the river canyon, so each outing feels different.

Because the park is large and mountainous, it rewards planning. Checking trail conditions and bringing suitable clothing for changeable mountain weather will make a visit more comfortable.
