Playa de Copacabana

Famoso tramo de playa de arena de 4 kilómetros conocido por su forma de media luna, vibrante vida nocturna y celebraciones de Año Nuevo. Un símbolo icónico de la cultura playera de Rio de Janeiro.

Copacabana Beach, known in Portuguese as Praia de Copacabana, is a sandy stretch of coastline in the Copacabana district of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It runs for about four kilometres along Avenida Atlântica, and its gentle crescent shape gives it a distinctive look from the promenade above.

What to expect

The beach is one of the city's best-known landmarks and a central part of Rio's beach culture. Visitors come to walk the long shoreline, sit on the sand, and watch the life of the city unfold along the water. The avenue beside it is lined with hotels, cafés and restaurants, so it is easy to combine time on the sand with a meal or a drink nearby.

Around the beach

  • The promenade: Avenida Atlântica runs alongside the sand and makes a pleasant place for a stroll.
  • Nightlife: The area is known for its lively evenings, with bars and restaurants close to the shore.
  • New Year's Eve: The beach is famous for its New Year's Eve celebrations, when large crowds gather along the sand.

Copacabana is well suited to a relaxed day or a lively night out, and it works as a base for exploring the rest of the city's coastline. Those who want a quieter visit may prefer to come early in the day, while those who enjoy a busy atmosphere will find plenty of energy here after dark.
