Chorillo del Salto is a waterfall of about 20 metres, set a short distance from El Calafate in Santa Cruz Province, Argentina. It sits on Ruta Provincial 15, so it is easy to reach if you are already exploring the town and its surroundings. The fall is also known as Salto Falls.
What to expect
The waterfall is framed by lenga forest, a native southern beech that gives the walk its character. Where the trees open up, there are panoramic views across Lago Argentino, the large lake that dominates this part of Patagonia.
Why visit
- A walk or hike through lenga forest, suited to those who want to get out of town for a few hours.
- Wide views over Lago Argentino from the surrounding ground.
- A natural stop among the outdoor activities that El Calafate is known for.
Because the waterfall is a hiking destination, it makes sense to wear sturdy footwear and to check the conditions before you set out. Patagonian weather can change quickly, so bring layers even on a bright day.
Chorillo del Salto works well as part of a day around El Calafate, pairing a walk with time in the town or along the lake shore.
