EPCOT is a theme park at Walt Disney World in Bay Lake, near Orlando, Florida. Its full name, Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, hints at its focus: technology, innovation and the cultures of the wider world. The park is organised into two main areas, and visitors often find that the contrast between them is part of its appeal.
Future World
Future World is the park's first area, built around attractions that look ahead to new ideas and technologies. Its most recognisable landmark is Spaceship Earth, the large geodesic sphere that stands at the park's entrance and has become a symbol of EPCOT itself. Visitors heading into Future World will find a range of attractions that explore science, the environment and the way people live and work.
World Showcase
Beyond Future World lies World Showcase, a ring of pavilions representing 11 countries. Each pavilion offers its own atmosphere, architecture, food and shops, so a stroll around the lagoon becomes a loose tour of different places without leaving the park. It suits visitors who enjoy sampling dishes, browsing local crafts or simply taking in the setting.
Planning a visit
- Set aside time for both Future World and World Showcase, as they feel quite different.
- Spaceship Earth is a good starting point for orienting yourself in the park.
