Garganta del Diablo, known in English as the Devil's Throat and in Portuguese as the Garganta do Diabo, is the most impressive section of Iguazu Falls. Here, fourteen falls drop 82 meters into a horseshoe-shaped gorge, making it the main highlight of the whole Iguazu Falls system.
It lies within the Parque Nacional Iguazú in Misiones Province, Argentina, close to the town of Puerto Iguazú. The park is the setting for the visit, and the falls are its centrepiece.
What to expect
- A broad, curving wall of water pouring into a deep gorge, with the spray rising high above it.
- Walkways that bring you close to the edge of the falls, so the scale of the drop is easy to take in.
- Views that change with the light, the water level and the weather, so each visit can feel a little different.
Planning your visit
Garganta del Diablo is a natural landmark and a full morning or day's outing rather than a quick stop. Because it sits inside a national park, you will travel through the park to reach it and should allow time for the walk. Puerto Iguazú offers places to stay, eat and arrange onward travel, which makes it a convenient base. For up-to-date information, you can call the park contact at +54 3757 491469.
