Palais du Golestan

Ancien complexe royal Qajar et site du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO à Tehran, comprenant des salles opulentes, des musées et des jardins. Construit au XVIe siècle et rénové plus tard durant l'ère Qajar.

Golestan Palace stands in the heart of Tehran, on Arg Square off Panzdah-e Khordad Street. It is a former royal complex of the Qajar dynasty and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is still known locally by its older name, Kakh-e Golestan.

The site was first built in the 16th century and was later renovated during the Qajar era, when it served as the royal seat. Today the grounds hold a series of richly decorated halls, several museums and open gardens, so a visit can easily fill a long part of a day.

What to expect

The palace is best approached slowly. Its halls are the main draw, and they reward close attention to the decoration that covers so many of their surfaces. The museums add context to the royal life that once took place here, and the gardens offer a quieter pause between the buildings.

  • A former royal Qajar complex, now open to visitors
  • Opulent halls and several museums within the grounds
  • Gardens for walking between the buildings
  • A UNESCO World Heritage Site in the centre of Tehran
