The Garganta del Diablo Viewpoint, also known as the Devil's Throat Viewpoint, sits within the Iguazú National Park in Misiones Province, Argentina, close to the town of Puerto Iguazú. It is the place to stand in front of the Devil's Throat, the largest cascade of the Iguazú Falls, and look straight down into the thunder of falling water.

What the visit is like

Reaching the viewpoint means following the Upper Circuit trail, which leads through the park and over a short stretch of catwalks above the river. The walk is brief, but the catwalks are open to the spray, so expect to be damp by the time you arrive. The viewpoint itself gives close-up views of the cascade, and the roar of the water is hard to ignore.

Before you go

  • Wear shoes with good grip, since the paths and catwalks can be wet.
  • Bring a waterproof layer or a change of clothes if you plan to walk further into the park.
  • Keep your camera or phone in a protective bag; the mist reaches far.
  • For questions about access, you can call the park's contact line at +54 3757 491469.

Around the viewpoint

The viewpoint is part of a larger national park, so a visit can easily be combined with other walks along the Upper and Lower Circuits. Puerto Iguazú, the nearby town, offers places to stay and eat for those who want to plan a longer stay in the area.
