バンコク首都圏

タイ最大の都市圏でBangkokとその周辺県を含み、1400万人以上の住民を擁する同国の経済、政治、文化の中心地。

The Bangkok Metropolitan Region is Thailand's largest urban area. It takes in Bangkok itself and the provinces around it, and it serves as the country's economic, political and cultural centre. The region is home to over 14 million residents, so a visit here is a visit to a city of very large scale.

Because the region is so broad, it rewards a visitor who decides in advance what they want to see. The capital at its core offers the main concentration of government, business and cultural life, while the surrounding provinces give a sense of how the metropolis spreads outward. Moving between these areas shows how the city's pace and character change from one district to the next.

What a visit offers

  • Urban life at full scale: the region is the centre of Thai economic and political affairs, so its streets reflect the daily work of the country.
  • Culture and everyday city life: as the cultural centre of Thailand, it gives visitors a broad look at how people live, work and gather.
  • Variety within one region: Bangkok and its neighbouring provinces differ from one another, so a trip can cover several contrasting settings.

Planning your visit

The region is best approached with some time set aside, since its size means getting between places takes effort. Choose a few areas to focus on rather than trying to cover everything at once. Visitors who plan around one or two districts tend to come away with a clearer picture of the city than those who rush from place to place.

Whether the region suits you depends on what you want from Southeast Asia: a large, working metropolis at the heart of a nation, with the energy and complexity that come with it. For many travellers, that alone is reason enough to go.
